the little price, chapters 19-27

Chapters 19-27

a. If you were to organize the 100th Year Anniversary of the Little Prince Publication, what Little Prince-related activities would you organize and why?

I would prefer the essay writing contest with the theme “Expressing Yourself through Creative Writing because I believe that one can be calm and one can forget about problems through writing. There, they can have the freedom they want and they can express their own outlooks, mostly with relation to the Little Prince.

b. What adult-quality does the Little Price have? What child-like qualities he has? Would you recommend this book to adults or children? Why?

He has the adult-quality of being so problematic. He asks so many questions and doesn’t stop until he finds out the answers to them. On the other hand, he has the child-like quality of being so annoying. He bothers people even when they are very busy just to find out the answers to his questions.
I recommend this book to adults so that they may see how children can be like and they can learn to understand them. And they can summarize the story for the youngsters so that the children may understand better since they do not know the meaning of the deep words yet.

c. What life story of the author Antoine de Saint Exupery is related to his novel?

Maybe his experiences and encounters in times of trouble in is life. He learned to share it through writing his novel because he wants to inspire others to also do the same as he did, like having mush patience.

d. What happened to the Little Prince at the end of the story?

The Little Prince had to leave. And so, he disappeared. Though the pilot succeeded to catch up with him, he still didn’t accomplish on stopping him from leaving. The Little Prince left without a trace with the pilot thinking that he has gone back to his own planet.

e. Why didn’t the pilot tell his companions about his true feelings when they finally found him? How is he related to our life when we conceal our true feelings from others?

He didn’t tell his companions about what he feels deep down inside him because he was sad to see the Little Prince gone. For the long time they had been together, the pilot had also treated the Little Prince as his own and they had shared much together. But to see the Little Prince gone, he surely was sad but he still hopes that the Little Prince is safe.

f. What important message or truth about life can you get from the following lines?

1. “It is only with the heart that one can see rightly, what is essential is invisible to the eye.”

The significance of the message is indeed very important. One must surely know the other before jumping to conclusions. You need to look down into one’s self before you criticize. For you will never know somebody very well until you have learned to open up your greatest treasure, your heart. You may not see how special one can be because you need to open and listen to you mind and heart, dictating yourself the right thing to do in order to be awaken from your deepest slumber.

2. “I am responsible for what I have tamed.”

There is a connection between the tamer and the one being tamed. He is responsible for it because what becomes of the one being tamed was done by him. Just as the same, you are responsible for your own doing.

3. “Words are the source of misunderstanding.”

Words are our way of communicating to others. We can never understand one another if we just act out. But through this kind of communication, we sometimes do not notice that the person whom you are talking to is slowly getting hurt. You begin to offend that person, causing him or her to not like you. We should be careful of our words for words become your actions and actions reflect the kind of person you are.

4. “What makes the desert beautiful is that somewhere it hides
its well.”

Being unique is one of the best assets a person can have. Because it is through this characteristic that people get to know you. Everyone has a hidden talent beneath them. And you should learn to figure that out by yourself. Do not waste it. You should be thankful that talent was given to you. There are many other people wanting that talent. Learn to use it well so that people will learn to look into you deeper and they will discover you are indeed special.

5. “I thought I was rich with one flower, that was unique in all
the world; and all I had was one common rose.”

Sometimes, to see is to believe. Do not believe right away of what people tell you for they can sometimes lie. If you allow them to lie to you, it is just like you allowed them to destroy and influence you. You should know better. Be smart. Do not allow them to fool you.

6. “If you love a flower that lives on a star, it is sweet to look at
the sky every night.”

We think that what we see is already the most important thing. But the truth is, the most important thing is the thing that is not seen. For we should learn to open our hearts and mind for us to be able to look deep inside ourselves and realize because if one is far, you can never grab the chance to look inside one person.

the little prince, chapters 10-18

Chapters 10-18

a. Who uttered the line, “One must require from each one the duty which each one can perform”? What is the real significance of this line?

The king did. Its significance is that you cannot just order one something without even knowing the doer’s capacity to perform the assigned task. You need to see first if the doer can perform the task. You do not just assign, but you also see if the assigned job can be done by that somebody whom you ordered.

b. What is the meaning of “It is much more difficult to judge oneself than to judge others?”

You cannot just judge yourself by your own opinion. Your statements may differ from others. Others may see you as rotten trash but you, yourself see that you re a brilliant gem. Like in politics, you may do everything for the people to like you. You can do everything, but you can never change nor dictate .the hearts and minds of the public.

c. What is meant by “Conceited people never hear anything but praise?” Does this kind of people actually suffer from this hearing problem?

For conceited men, all other men are admirers. They do not give or say anything but praise. They only hear compliments from all others. The do not hear comments nor insults. No matter what you say, they just respond if you say a good thing about them like how you admire them very much.
For most people, they become happy if they hear praises all the time. It is good to hear them for it gives you peace of mind. But you also shouldn’t disregard the bad comments given by the people for it is from them where you learn from your mistakes and you change the wrong to the right.

d. What is the irony of the line, “I am drinking so that I may forget?” Could you relate similar line that you hear from people?

When some people are stressed and they think there is no more solution to a certain problem, they drink because they want to forget the bad happening in their lives.
The line “I disregard the bad comments given by people so that I won’t lose hope and continue reaching for my goals” may be similar. People of younger ages usually put that in their minds so that they do not get distracted.

e. Why does the businessman want to become rich? How is the character related to real life people?

The business man wanted to become rich for him to possibly buy more stars, if ever any are discovered. The people on Earth also want to become rich because for them, being rich means being popular. Everyone on the public gets to know you. But money really isn’t everything. Why? Simply because you cannot buy love, respect, family and real friends by means of money. You earn them by yourself.

f. What is meant by, “There is nothing to understand. Orders are orders”? What is its real life significance?

It meant that you should not question anymore the orders given to you. You must simply turn back and accomplish the assigned task. In Earth, we mostly question orders given by our parents which sometimes make them mad. We need to follow our elders right away because they know what is best for us. We live to obey, not to disobey.

g. How did the Little Prince perceive the character of the lamplighter? Do you agree with him? Why?

The Little Prince loved the lamplighter. He saw inside the lamplighter how he was so obedient to the orders given even though the rules weren’t changed. Yes, I agree with the prince. Because I, myself saw and was able to reflect that the lamplighter was loyal with his job for he proceeded to go on with his assigned task, even without somebody watching over him to perform it.

h. What truth about adults does the geographer represent? How does he represent this truth about adults?

The geographer shows that adults know mostly everything. Not actually everything, but mostly. And adults are such busy men, unlike us children, which we do not care about what’s happening around us.

i. How did the pilot describe planet Earth? How would you describe it?

He described it as an extraordinary planet! A one-of-a-kind planet. No planet was the same as planet Earth. It had many features that no other planet had like the landmarks and the poles. The prince met the snake and was amazed with the snake’s characteristics and capability to survive even without any feet.
I would describe the planet Earth similar to as what the pilot described it. Trees are big and there are many places to visit. You will learn many languages and nationalities. You will meet different people with different characteristics and standings in life. You will learn so much about other people’s cultures and traditions which may impress you.

j. The snake describes himself to be more powerful than the finger of a king. He also said that he speaks in riddles because he solves all of them. What made him say these statements?

I think that his potential made him say those statements. He has such great faith in himself that he could survive even without the use of feet to travel like humans do and hands to pick up and touch things like we do. But still, he learns to be independent, facing obstacles in his life by his own.

k. What truth about life is reflected on Chapter 18?

Most human beings have no principles denoted by the roots mentioned by the flower so they are easily persuaded when difficulties and trials in life are upon them.

Chapters 1-9

a. How did the people’s reaction towards the boa
constrictor drawing affect the pilot’s life? What does it tell you about how adults should treat children?

The people’s reactions towards the pilot’s drawing made a great impulse to his life for their comments influenced him to stop drawing and choose another profession. They made him lose hope and so, he didn’t have faith in himself anymore. It also made the pilot very frustrated of himself.
I think that adults should appreciate every little thing any child can accomplish for this is where they gain the courage and strength to be able to come up with a very good output. They should not insult them for children may not know much about the world but they also have feelings like any other adult.

b. How did the pilot finally draw the exact sheep wanted by the Little Prince? What does this tell you?

After three attempts, the pilot finally drew the sheep the Little Prince wanted as his fourth drawing. The pilot drew the sheep inside a box for he was tired of doing the drawing all over again but he never knew that his young judge would approve of it.
It also tells me that you should never give up of a task given to you by somebody for they wouldn’t give these to you if they know that you cannot accomplish it. A certain task is not a burden but it is one of the tools for measuring your responsibility, faith and belief in yourself.

c. Why nobody believed the Turkish astronomer when he talked about Asteroid B 612 for the first time? What does this tell you about grownups?

Because the Turkish astronomer was dressed silly in a Turkish costume, nobody believed his discovery for the first time but since the rule was changed, he again presented his discovery for the second time and by this time, everybody accepted his theory.
It just shows that grownups love figures. Unlike us children, we ask about essential matters like “Is she pretty?” or “Does she love to play games?” but for adults, they ask “How old is she?” or “How much does it cost?”

d. When do adults describe that a house is beautiful? What does this tell you?

Adults describe that a house is beautiful if they find out that it is very expensive. Unlike us children, we are already astonished just by seeing when that one house is cute or pretty.
It shows that it may require a lot of effort for you to be able to impress an adult. U need to get their attention so that you would be able to put and settle their minds over your topic.

e. What are baobabs? What aspect of life do they reflect?

Baobabs are trees as big as castles. The aspect of life they reflect is that you may be nothing at the beginning but you can be a big something in the future if you just keep on trying and never giving up for nobody can pull you down if you really aspire the want of being on top but you should also remember to always be humble because if you won’t, all your works and efforts would just be destroyed for when a problem infests you and you don’t attend to it too late, you can never get rid of it already.

f. How did the Little Prince react when the pilot replied, “great matters of consequence”? Why did the Little Prince react that way?

The Little Prince was furious for the pilot had acted like one of the grownups which made the pilot a little ashamed. The Little Prince also thought that the pilot was mixing up everything. He was confusing both of them that they could not understand one another.

g. What is meant by, “It is such a secret place, the land of tears”?

The pilot has hurt the Little Prince. He didn’t mean to but he was caught up in such a difficult situation, was he to leave his work and suffer more? Or instead, entertain the youngster with his questions? He was speechless. He wasn’t able to figure out the way to relate with the prince. He didn’t know the way to go with the prince once more. He did not know the passage to have the prince stop sobbing, feeling bad.

h. What aspect of life is reflected by the “volcanoes”?

Even though the volcanoes were small and the prince was definitely bigger, the volcanoes still made a great impact on the prince’s life. At the same time, he cleaned them. Size doesn’t matter. You can help make a better society as long as you have faith, hope, courage and potential.

i. Who uttered the line, “I must endure the presence of two or three caterpillars if I wish to become acquainted with the butterflies”? What significant message is implied?

The flower whom the Little Prince met uttered that line. You have to sacrifice some things in life for you to be able to have a better standing in the society. If you won’t learn to sacrifice, the best thing that should be for you might just slip from you hands. Learn to sacrifice. You never know, after you sacrifice, you might just encounter the greatest possession in life.

j. “She coughed two or three times in order to put the Little Prince in the wrong.” What is the context behind this line? What characteristic is shown on the statement? How is this seen in real life?

The flower was distracting the Little Prince by her condition. Since the flower knew how the Little Prince loved her, she put him in the wrong by her condition. The Little Prince saw how the flower was in such a bad condition. On the other side, the flower realized her mistake and learned to show the Little Prince her mistake.
It is shown that the flower was distracting the Little Prince. The flower just didn’t realize how much the Little Prince cared. So she took his love and care for granted, thinking that the Little Prince’s feelings will never change.
The statement can be related in real life. Just by seeing how the flower took for granted the care and love the Little Prince is giving her, it shows that most of us people just don’t care about the things happening. We just take them for granted that we weren’t able to notice that the very thing that slipped away was just the very same thing we’ve been wishing for to stay.

k. How will you describe the relationship of the Little Prince and the flower?

Their relationship is very strong that o one can break it. They treasure one another so much that their love and care for one another can never be replaced, not even for all the riches in the world. True friendship cannot die. There may be many obstacles to test your union with one another. But you can encounter them if you face them together an if you stay strong.
